Catherine Andre

An alumna of Princeton University, the Fulbright Scholar Program and Interlochen Arts Academy, Catherine developed her passion for tutoring early as a high school peer tutor for subjects as wide-ranging as History, Physics, French, and Film Production. Graduating with top academic awards as the school’s Salutatorian, Catherine continued pursuing extracurricular opportunities to teach at Princeton. She was hired by the University’s most competitive and sought-after tutoring service, the Writing Center. As a Writing Center Fellow, Catherine tutored undergraduate and graduate students alike in all phases of the writing process from freshman seminar short responses to doctoral theses. Over her time at Princeton, she also won five top academic awards and received seventeen separate research and production grants to support her independent work in English, Theater and Humanistic Studies. Since graduating cum laude from Princeton, Catherine has tutored students from all over the world in all humanities subjects, all types of writing and college admissions tests.

Outside tutoring, Catherine is a theater and film director with a particular passion for Shakespeare; her Fulbright project used staging Shakespearean texts as a vehicle for multicultural exchange. Catherine’s academic and artistic work has always been rooted in interdisciplinary inquiry, which forms the cornerstone for her unique tutoring approach. She works with students not only to develop their critical thinking skills in a specific academic context but also to make connections to the greater trajectory of intellectual history. She excitedly encourages students to think beyond the boundaries of their cultures and experiences to take on a more global perspective and see commonplace questions in new light. Catherine believes that the best way to solve any problem is to approach it from multiple angles and that having a wide-ranging fund of knowledge is essential to being a good citizen of the world.
