For over a decade, Andy has been helping students across the globe prepare for standardized tests and excel in the classroom. He has experience with all kinds of students: top scorers who have their eyes on the Ivy League and students who need that extra push to find an academic rhythm. Andy also has extensive experience working with students with special learning needs - both those who receive testing accommodations and those who don't. More specifically, he has worked with students who have ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, spatial reasoning issues, and processing/executive functioning issues.
His successes as a tutor can be traced back to his 14 years at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C.; there, under the tutelage of many amazing teachers, Andy absorbed the importance of powerful instruction: how to turn tedium into fun and an interesting topic into a lifelong passion. Matriculating to Brown University in 2005, Andy was determined from the start to spend his college years cultivating his two passions: academics and music.
By the time he graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Andy was already a regular on the East Coast music scene and an experienced tutor. After graduating, he spent the next several years making a home for himself in NYC as a tutor and a name for himself across the country as a touring musician with his band, Andy Suzuki & The Method.
Andy currently resides in Brooklyn, NY with his wife, his daughter, and his two cats. He has a special ability to turn a morass of too much information into something approachable and even fun; his relaxed manner belies his ability to push students to clear, consistent strategies. Apart from a performer’s ability to engage an audience, his primary talent as a tutor is his knack for translating the language of the test into the language of the student. Over the years, Andy has developed his own methods and the unique ability to customize his lessons not just in terms of content, but in terms of cognition and personality as well - as he works closely as a coach both for the student and the family as a whole.
